Our School History

Jefferson Elementary is rich in community history as one of the original schools in Carlsbad. First built in 1951, it is the alma mater of many outstanding Carlsbad and San Diego County citizens.

The original campus was torn down and rebuilt in 2000. The school now boasts a large auditorium with a stage, two complete computer labs, technology in every classroom, indoor and outdoor eating areas, an outdoor amphitheater, a parent volunteer room, the district assessment center, and forty classrooms.

Jack, O’Connell the Superintendent of California Schools, has awarded the parents, students, and staff at Jefferson a “California Distinguished School” recognition. In addition, we were named a “Title I High Achieving School” by California State Department of Education in 2003 and 2005.

In 2006, Jefferson began the three-year process of becoming an International Baccalaureate School. On June 2, 2009, Jefferson Elementary in Carlsbad was authorized as an International Baccalaureate authorized school. Jefferson now joins a group of 12 elementary schools authorized in the State of California.
