Transdisciplinary Themes
The most significant and distinctive feature of the IB Primary Years Programme (elementary school) are the six transdisciplinary themes. These themes provide the opportunity to incorporate local and global issues into the curriculum and effectively allow students to “step up” beyond the confines of learning within subject areas.
To become an IB World School, Jefferson teachers carefully designed a school-wide Programme of Inquiry around these themes, incorporating state and district standards into curriculum planners. Teacher teams revise and refine the POI in extensive, ongoing collaborations within and between grade levels.
